Feuer und Stein – neu übersetzen?

Ich habe in den letzten Monaten/Jahren immer mal wieder im Internet gelesen, das sich viele Fans eine neue Übersetzung der ersten drei Bücher der Highland Saga durch Barbara Schnell wünschen.

Das kann ich eigentlich erst jetzt nachvollziehen, nachdem ich auch die englischen Originale gelesen habe. Ich möchte auf keinen Fall die Übersetzer der ersten drei Bücher angreifen, aber Barbara Schnell hat irgendwie ein besseres Gefühl für die Sprache von Diana Gabaldon. Sie hat da vermutlich einen riesigen Vorteil, da beide miteinander befreundet sind.

Viele Feinheiten in den Unterhaltungen, gerade zwischen den beiden Hauptpersonen Claire und Jamie, sind in der deutschen Übersetzung verloren gegangen. Einige schottische Floskeln würde man auch anders übersetzen.  Es ist mir bewusst, dass das hier klagen auf sehr hohem Niveau ist. Aber fragen kostet ja nichts 😉

 

Also, lieber Blanvalet-Verlag,

was müssen wir Fans der Highland Saga anstellen, um die ersten drei Bücher von Barbara Schnell übersetzt im Laden kaufen zu können? Wir sind da zu vielen Schandtaten bereit!

Okay, I´ve done it. At the end I was looking for the next 800 pages. Must I really wait for another 4 years?? HELP!!!

Okay, ich bin durch. Am Ende habe ich nach den nächsten 800 Seiten gesucht. Muss ich jetzt wirklich 4 Jahre warten?? HILFE!!

Resumee World Outlander Day

2 days ago. I have to sleep over. And I´m still overwhelmed, what happend last sunday.

On May, 27 I postet on my blog and my twitteraccount @highlandsaga about the first World Outlander Day. And tweetet it to some fangroups.

The reactions to it simply blew me away. I never thought that the idea spreads so within such a short time.

2 Tage ist es her. Ich habe das erstmal verdauen müssen. Ich bin immer noch völlig überwältigt, was da letzten Sonntag passiert ist.

Am 27.05. habe ich über meinen Blog und meinen Twitteraccout @highlandsaga den ersten World Outlander Day ausgerufen. Und einige Fangruppen angeschrieben.

World Outlander Day in Review

June 1st, 2014, World Outlander Day was a smashing success. We had quotes, artwork, and words from the heart being tweeted from every direction. I thought it might be nice to have one place to view all the wonderful sentiments. Enjoy the entries below for the second time or the first – if you missed any. Thank you to all my sisters for their talent and for sharing their love of all things Outlander and Diana Gabaldon. If I missed some (and I’m sure I have), please let me know. #WorldOutlanderDay

Nicht durch die Steine gefallen, sondern über ein Buch gestolpert.

Gelesen habe ich schon immer sehr viel. Eigentlich fast alles.

Ende 1993/Anfang 1994 war ich mal wieder auf der Suche nach neuem Lesestoff. Damals gab es noch keine eBooks. Ich bin also, wie immer, in die Stadt gefahren. Zum Buchladen meines Vertrauens. Die Inhaberin war gerade dabei, eine neue Lieferung entgegenzunehmen. Ich habe, meinen damals noch kleinen Sohn, in der Kinderbuchabteilung abgesetzt und bin auf die Suche gegangen. Soweit ich mich erinnere, habe ich nach nichts konkretem gesucht. Einfach nur was Gutes für lange, dunkle Winterabende.

Die Buchhändlerin hatte inzwischen damit begonnen, neue Bücher auszupacken. Da ich sie gut kannte, hab ich sie nach einer Empfehlung gefragt. Wie immer haben wir uns angeregt ausgetauscht. Sie drehte sich schwungvoll um und stolpert. Ich fange sie auf und stoße dabei gegen die gerade gelieferten Bücher. Band 1 – Feuer und Stein landet in meinen Händen. Der Rest ist Geschichte… Verfallen also, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes.

Die Bücher begleiten mich jetzt 20 wundervolle Jahre. Ich bin gemeinsam mit den Charakteren gewachsen. Die Art von Diana Gabaldon, ihre Welten wahr werden zu lassen, fesselt mich immer wieder aufs neue. Der Humor, die Tiefgründigkeit, die Überraschung. Einfach rundum gelungen. Die Bücher sprechen den Leser auf allen Ebenen an. Die großartigen Dialoge, die historische Treue, die so echt rüberkommenden Charaktere und eine geniale Schreibweise haben mich 1993  an diese Bücher gefesselt. Und diese Faszination hat mich nie losgelassen. Diana Gabaldon´s Art, ihre Figuren auf dem Papier zum Leben zu erwecken ist mir bisher so nicht begegnet. Natürlich gibt es viele gute Schriftsteller, aber sie hat eine wunderbare Art zu schreiben, die mich tief in der Seele berührt. Ich finde mich in diesen Büchern wieder, versinke darin und kann kaum wieder auftauchen.

Not fallen through the stones, but stumbled over a book…

I have always been reading a lot. Actually, I read almost everything. At the end of 1993/beginning of 1994, I was, once again, looking for new book. Since there were no eBooks back then, I went to the city to check out my favorite bookstore as I always did. The owner was just about to receive a new delivery. I settled my then small son in the children’s book department and went hunting for a good read. I recall not having had a special book in mind – just something to entertain me during the long dark winter evenings ahead.

The owner of the bookstore had begun unpacking her latest delivery, but, since I knew her quitewell by then, I headed her way and asked for a recommendation. We talked for a while, and while she turned around to reach for something she suddenly stumbled. I quickly moved over and caught her, bumping into a stack oft those newly delivered books myself. Guess what? I ended up holding “Outlander” in myhands. The rest is history…

The books of the Outlander series have been valued companions of mine for 20 wonderful years by now. Ever since I started reading them I felt that special attachment to the characters and their lives, which were brought to life so vividly. Those books reached out to me on so many levels. The richness of the story, humor, surprise, historical fidelity and wonderful dialogues fascinate me to the day. There are quite a few good authors out there, but Diana Gabaldon’s brilliant and unique way of writing touches my soul as no other ever has.
